| Voice comments expanded |
This module was developed for a way to leave voice comments in a CMS using the client mic. In other words a user on a Windows, Mac or Linux machine only needs to have a browser with Flash and they can leave voice files by speaking into the mic on their computer. Voice Comment Recorder: Level of difficulty - very very high. Description: Create a way for users to leave voice comments in a website / cms using the local microphone on their computer without having to upload files. In other words the user need to be able to just speak into his headset and the voice comment would be placed in a custom player. Solution: We integrate a Red Five server with Drupal. Red Five us an open source Flash Media Server which is powered by Java (JVM not Jscript). This allowed us to use the Flash binaries resident tin the users browser to control the mic and leave voice messages as mp3 on the server. The work was further complicated becasue the MP3 format used by the Flash binaries is a proprietary format made by Nellymoser. The client needed it to be WAV so it could be transcribed to text. Solution to secondary need for WAV conversion: Because Nellymoser wanted a fortune for use of the codec we figured out how to transcode without the codec. We ported the sound out of the virtual sound out ports on the server and ported it back into the virual sound in. Then we recorded the sound using a WAV recorder. Problem solved. |

The User-Node Relation module, a.k.a. nurel, is a module that uses one node to make a relation between a node and a user. This is useful in situations where users want to add nodes to their favorites list, a shopping cart, etc. Using a node to link another node and a user is useful because it allows us to add fields to the relation. For example, if you add a node to your favorites list you may want to select a category or add a description. |
| Sound Recorder Module (Drupal Voice Comments) |
This module uses Red5 (opensource Flash Media Server) to create audio content in Drupal using the user's local mic. Nothing is installed on the local machine because it uses Flash to access the local machine mic. Audio can be posted to any Drupal node as well as comments. |
